MORRISONS has promised to treble staff bonuses as a reward for front-line work during the Covid-19 crisis.
Employees will get a six per cent bonus on earnings over the next year — around £1,050 for a full-time worker.
The supermarket said it will also be paid to staff off sick or self-isolating, and to new employees brought in to help. After record demand in March — higher than Christmas — Ocado, Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury’s all pledged staff a ten per cent bonus and Asda has promised an extra week’s pay in June. Marks & Spencer is offering 15 per cent extra pay.
The GMB union says a special allowance should be paid to all key workers in public services, many of them low-paid, during the crisis.
